Before you install

Shadow currently requires an Apple Silicon Mac and macOS 14.2 or later.

Download the current installer from shadow.do/download, open it, and move Shadow to Applications if macOS asks you to.

Finish setup

The first-run guide takes you through four important steps:

  1. Sign in with the link sent to your email.
  2. Allow Microphone, System Audio, Screen Recording, and Accessibility access.
  3. Choose the transcription model that matches the languages you speak.
  4. Choose a vault folder for your local Markdown and media files.

I download the transcription resources required by your selection. Listening and voice-enabled Action Skills remain unavailable until those resources are ready.

Capture your first meeting

You can start in any of these ways:

  • Turn on Autopilot so I can detect supported meetings and start Listening automatically.
  • Select Start Listening in the app.
  • Use the Quick start and stop shortcut. The current default is Control + Shift + S, and you can change it in Settings.

When Listening starts, confirm the correct microphone and meeting screen in the floating controls. Use In-person meeting when everyone is in the room and you do not need remote system audio.

When the meeting ends, stop Listening. I finish the transcript, save the meeting to your vault, and run any automated Meeting Skills you enabled.

Always tell the other participants and obtain the consent required where everyone is located before I start recording or transcribing.
