Choose how Listening starts
Open Settings → Meeting → Autopilot mode and choose:
- Enabled: Listening starts automatically when Shadow detects a supported meeting. After Shadow detects that you left, it confirms the end for five seconds before stopping that automatically started online session.
- Ask Me: Shadow detects the meeting and asks before Listening starts.
- Disabled: start and stop Listening yourself.
For manual control, select Start Listening in the app or use your Quick start and stop shortcut. The current default is Control + Shift + S.
If Autopilot is enabled or set to Ask Me and detects that your manually started online meeting ended, Shadow confirms the end for five seconds, then shows “Meeting appears to have ended” with a 10-second countdown. Listening stops and saves the meeting when the countdown finishes. Select Cancel or close the notification to keep Listening. If the meeting resumes, Shadow cancels the pending stop.
For an in-person meeting, Shadow keeps Listening active and shows a reminder with a Stop button. Closing that reminder or letting it expire keeps Listening.
Supported meeting platforms
Autopilot detects meetings on the following platforms.

Google Meet is supported in Chrome, Safari, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Dia.
Brave Origin is a separate browser app. Its automatic detection requires a Shadow version with Brave Origin support; if it is not detected, start Listening manually.
Additional configurations, including Google Meet installed through Edge or Brave, Google Meet in other browsers, and browser versions of other meeting platforms, have not been verified and are not currently listed as supported.
Availability note: Updates to meeting apps or browsers, as well as differences in your macOS version, permissions, or environment, may temporarily prevent Autopilot from detecting meetings—even on supported platforms. If detection is unavailable, you can start Listening manually.
These support details apply to automatic meeting detection with Autopilot.
Check the floating controls
When Listening starts, the floating control shows the current capture state. Expand it to check:
- the microphone in use;
- the detected meeting screen;
- whether this is an in-person meeting.
If the wrong screen is selected, choose another available capture target. If Shadow loses the meeting screen, screenshots pause until it becomes visible again. You can enable a private notification for this in Settings → Meeting → Smart screenshot.
Online and in-person meetings
For an online or hybrid call, keep System Audio available to capture remote participants. For a fully in-person conversation, enable In-person meeting and place the Mac where the microphone can hear everyone clearly.
Headphones usually reduce echo. If remote audio plays through speakers, the optional Acoustic Echo Cancellation setting may help, but it can briefly affect audio levels when Listening begins.
Finish or discard
Use the completion control or the same shortcut to stop and keep the meeting. Shadow then finishes processing, saves the meeting bundle, and runs automated Meeting Skills.
Once audio capture has stopped, you can start the next meeting while the previous one is still processing. The new recording takes priority; remaining processing for earlier meetings may wait until recording ends.
Hover over a floating control to see what it does: hide the widget, cancel and delete the meeting, stop and save the meeting, or open Shadow. The microphone and screenshot controls also show descriptions.
Select X to cancel and delete the meeting. If the transcript contains even one character, the widget asks “Cancel and delete this meeting?”. Choose No or press Escape to close the confirmation and keep Listening. Choose Yes to cancel and delete the meeting; this cannot be undone. Listening continues while you decide. If there is no transcript yet, X cancels immediately without confirmation.
If your Mac is busy, Shadow may keep recording audio while pausing live transcription. The remaining transcript is processed automatically when resources are available.
