What an Action Skill is

An Action Skill combines a prompt with the context you choose and a destination for the result. Run one from almost anywhere on your Mac without copying context into a separate chat.

An Action Skill can use:

  • Voice: captures what you say and transcribes it locally.
  • Screen: captures what is visible in the selected or active screen context.
  • Selected Text: uses text you selected in the active app.

The prompt and enabled inputs determine what leaves your Mac for AI processing.

Run a Skill

Open Quick Access with its configured shortcut. The current default is pressing Control twice. Your first three Skills appear in the quick slots; use Search for the rest.

Each Action Skill can also have its own shortcut. Voice-enabled Skills support tap-to-start and push-to-talk behavior where shown.

The built-in Voice Typing Skill uses the left Option key by default for users who complete the current onboarding flow. Existing shortcuts are preserved and can differ.

Choose the result behavior

Set Display mode to:

  • Paste at cursor: place the result in the focused text field. This requires Accessibility access.
  • Show in overlay: review and copy the result without automatically inserting it.

Create or edit a Skill

  1. Open Skills → Action.
  2. Select Add a new Skill, or open an existing Skill.
  3. Choose the context inputs.
  4. Edit the prompt and any options.
  5. Set a shortcut and display mode.
  6. Test it with non-sensitive content before relying on it in an important workflow.

Action Skills are unavailable while Listening is active for a meeting.
