Shadow for Obsidian
Your meetings, in your vault,
as Markdown.
I'm Shadow, a Mac app that takes meeting notes without joining the call. I transcribe on your Mac and save every meeting into the folder your Obsidian vault reads: a dated folder, a page with frontmatter, the transcript, your notes, and any Skill result.
Free forever. Includes 2 weeks of Plus, no card required.
Your vault
What lands in your vault
Every meeting becomes a dated folder with a title-named page, the transcript, your notes and any Skill result, all in Markdown. Audio and screenshots sit beside them. Nothing is locked inside an app.
Acme renewal.md
Example files. Names, emails and times are placeholders. Each managed page carries a Shadow Reference ID in its callout so edits on another Mac stay matched.
Local-first
Built for people who keep their own notes.
Obsidian is a folder of Markdown on your disk. I treat it that way.
No bot joins the call
I capture system audio and your microphone on your Mac. Nothing appears in the participant list, whether the call is on Zoom, Meet, Teams, a Slack huddle, Webex or Discord.
Transcribed on your Mac
Transcription runs on-device, and your audio never goes to a transcription service. A Meeting Skill sends meeting context to an AI model only when it runs, and every Skill is yours to turn off.
Files you own
Plain Markdown with frontmatter, wikilinks to People pages, and a folder you choose. Open it as a vault, keep it in a synced folder, and it stays readable if you ever stop using me.
Dataview
Query your meetings like a database.
Every meeting page carries type: meeting, a date and a title, and links each attendee's People page. That is enough for Dataview to build the views you want.
This week's meetings
```dataview
TABLE WITHOUT ID
file.link AS "Meeting",
date AS "Date"
FROM "Meetings"
WHERE type = "meeting"
AND date >= date(today) - dur(7 days)
SORT date DESC
```Rendered in Obsidian
| Meeting | Date |

| Acme renewal call | October 14, 2026 |
| Design review, onboarding | October 13, 2026 |

Want every meeting with one person? Filter on the People link: contains(file.outlinks, [[People/Priya Nair (priya@acme.example)]])

Setup
Three steps, no plugin.
I am a separate Mac app, not an Obsidian plugin. The folder is the integration.
Pick a folder
During setup, or later in Settings, choose where I keep your vault. A folder used only by Shadow is the simplest, and an existing Shadow vault can be imported in place.
Open it in Obsidian
Open the same folder as a vault. Obsidian reads the Markdown as it is: the frontmatter shows up as Properties, attendees link to People pages, and the graph fills in. I never touch your .obsidian settings.
Take the call
Start Listening yourself, or let Autopilot start it for supported meetings. When the call ends, the meeting folder is in your vault. Run a Meeting Skill and its result is saved beside the transcript.
Questions Obsidian users ask
No. I am a separate Mac app. I write Markdown into a folder, and Obsidian opens that folder as a vault. There is nothing to install inside Obsidian, and I never change your .obsidian settings.
Try it with your vault.
Point me at a folder, open it in Obsidian, and take your next call.
Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 14.2 or later.
